Walter K. Burton, is a 4th Generation attorney with more than 36 years of trial experience handling all types of personal injury accidents to include automobile, slip and fall, wrongful death, Medical/nursing home negligence. Walter has tried personal injury cases in Illinois, Virginia and North Carolina. In North Carolina, Walter has tried cases in more than 60 counties.

Walter was raised in Princeton, West Virginia as the second in a family of five children. Walter attended military school in Waynesboro, Virginia and excelled in both academics and athletics. Walter later played college football at Bluefield State College in West Virginia and went on to graduate Cum Laude from Marshall University in 1981.

After graduating college, Walter attended law school in Chicago, Illinois at the John Marshall School of Law where he graduated in December 1983. Walter was admitted to the Bar in the State of Illinois in May 1984, in the State of North Carolina in April 1987 and in the State of Virginia in September 2017. Walter maintains an active personal injury practice in both North Carolina and Virginia.

As a recent member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (VTLA), Walter collaborates with a community of legal professionals dedicated to promoting justice and upholding the rights of Virginians.

Walter currently lives in Oak Ridge, North Carolina and is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the Virginia State Bar and the Illinois State Bar. In addition to practicing personal injury work, Walter also is a Certified Mediator in North Carolina having been certified since 2003 and has handled countless mediation and arbitrations since that time.

The Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (VTLA), established in 1959 with around 2,000 members in Virginia, aims to improve trial lawyer skills, enhance the justice system, and promote diversity among its members. VTLA accomplishes this through legal education, public awareness campaigns, partnership with the William & Mary School of Law, and its associated foundation’s efforts for equal access to justice.
