Walter was admitted to the Bar in the State of Illinois in May 1984, in the State of North Carolina in April 1987 and in the State of Virginia in September 2017. Walter maintains an active personal injury practice in both North Carolina and Virginia. Walter was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1987. Walter originally worked in Greenville North Carolina and then moved to Greensboro in the Fall of 1989 where he became a partner in a law firm handling primarily insurance defense matters. In 1994, Walter became managing partner of the firm he was working with, a position he held through November 2019. In December 2019, Walter started the Law Firm of Walter K. Burton, Attorney at Law, PLLC, for the purpose of representing people injured as a result of someone else’s negligence or wrongful conduct.
Walter has tried all types of personal injury cases, both on the plaintiff and defense side to include: car accidents, slip and fall, motorcycle, boating, construction, wrongful death, medical negligence and product liability matters.
In addition to trial work, Walter has worked in all types of insurance coverage matters and has argued before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, North Carolina Supreme Court and the Fourth Circuit in Richmond, Virginia. Walter has also tried criminal matters involving capital murder, rape and DWI.
Throughout his dedicated approach, Walter seeks to hold business and individuals responsible for wrongful/negligence conduct and to obtain for his clients, the full compensation necessary for payment of past, present and future damages.
